Default Re: Extra Class June 2010

Dates for the Extra Class extension are: June 10, 17, 18, and the Test on Saturday June 19.

The Thursday night classes will be from 7pm - 9:30pm, at the Lost Hills Sheriff's Station. The Friday night session (optional) will be a review in preparation for the Saturday June 19 exam.

The Saturday exam will be at 2pm, following a 10am - 2pm review.

I do suggest that you sit in on the general classes as a good review. Much of what I cover in general info also is in the extra content. The Extra Classes are now planned for June 10, 17, 18, and the test on 19 June. Get a copy of the ARRL Extra Q&A manual and read the first four chapters, at least. It will be a wild ride but I have done this before and it works. Please register with Norm Goodkin, K6YXH,

And away we go.....Glad to have you all in this year's edition of my upgrade classes. As you know these classes are "fast track", meaning you will have specific study assignments with each class for the next meeting. We will go through the complete license giving you an understanding or what questions you are answering. This is not a memorize the answers class. Hopefully you will be able to use what you learn. the rest of your amateur radio life.

If you haven't already done so, get the book and start reading. Particularly the first four chapters. They contain information that only you can read and learn. Laws, procedures, and practices are things you can learn ahead of time. We will begin with chapter five to learn the electronic problem solving that is required. We will then back track to the first part of the book for the procedural matters.

The book is the ARRL's General Q & A manual. It is an upgrade to the General Class Ham Radio License, ISBN 0-780872 599956. You can order it directly from the ARRL under Order Number 9957. Their Web site is ARRL.org is a good place to start. There you will find all kinds of good stuff including practice materials that are good to read over. Please do not substitute a different book. There are some other good books but let's all stick together.

Also check the QRZ.com website. It has actual computer generated practice tests you can take and you will find them invaluable in sharpening your test taking skills. Call me if you have any questions, I want this to be a fun and productive adventure for all of us.
